SS 7: Wild Ambition

I am Bowman. I, who is the Head General of the Fishmen Country is a Mambo.

In our country, the senate is in-charge with the politics. Long ago, the senate were the ones who vehemently protected the peace treaty that was signed with the mermaids. Now, it is composed of old men trying to avoid managing the fishmen’s current predicament, wasting their everyday life pointlessly.

It seems that in the old days, the sea in which we lived was warm and calm. However, due to a calamity that happened 150 years ago, the flow of the ocean has changed. Mambo has become a cold sea with violent currents. The number of preys to hunt declined; we had to swim far away in order to find food.

With violent ocean currents, demons were brought in from the dark sea. The number of fishmen that were attacked by sea serpents and die were constant. All the current fishmen strive harder everyday to survive. Our people have to solve these problems somehow. It is necessary for the next generation’s children to take over and live with better conditions. So in order to lessen the casualties today, we patrolled the fishmen’s surrounding area while being wary of sea serpents and other demons.

Meanwhile, the people who were sent towards the coastlines to trade came to report. It seems that he was given a suspicious story from a fat human. How about we try to attack the mermaid country, he said.

Unlike ours, the mermaid country lies in a middle of a warm and calm sea. I had already forgotten how many times I wanted to attack and enter. But that country had a powerful barrier helping to repel intruders. The price to break that barrier will be met with great sacrifice. At present, we don’t have the sufficient power to take down the mermaid country.

Even if my subordinate said some impossible things, he still blabbered another unbelievable story.

He said that the humans had a staff item that can control sea serpents. In addition, depending on the user’s innate ability, he could control more serpents. There would be no one who can control the serpents other than the wand’s users.

「If you would like to continue listening to the details, please come to the coastlines at the next full moon. There are numerous people who wanted to possess the staff so feel free to decline.」 they said.

I contemplated. If we could control the serpents, it would be possible for the fishmen to rule this whole sea. Though it is impossible to dominate the dark sea, it is not a dream to conquer the other seas.

I do not know what kind of demands the humans will come up with but I should meet them face to face and judge the situation accordingly. So I decided not to tell the senate and wait for the next full moon.

****

I met a fat human on the promised day. What the humans wanted from my people was to attack the mermaid country and to sell them any young mermaid girls that we captured. Thinking about the terms, it seems quite advantageous for us. So there were no refusals regarding the selling of mermaids.

The humans and I exchanged a contract and I received the Staff of Domination. Then I promised to come back here again after 3 full moons. So, I must subdue sea serpents by that time.

****

Learning to wield the Staff of Domination was easy. It was just letting the staff touch the body of the serpent and cast the spell. That action alone seems to be able to control the serpents. We searched for sea serpents’ nests and poured sleeping drugs on it. I leaned the staff towards the sleeping serpent and cast the spell. Thereupon, through the spell embedded into the staff, I can feel our connection with the serpent.

After that, in the same way as before, I put two more sea serpents under control. However, any more would be impossible. These 3 were the absolute limit. One more burden into my mind and my soul won’t hold it.

When I was training at manipulating the serpents, I was called by the senate. In any case, it would just be a dull small talk.

I hid the Staff of Domination and headed towards the senate. What waited me there were spear-wielding soldiers under the direct rule of the senate encircling me. They charged me with treason against the nation.

Having secret deals with the humans without permission. In order to defeat the mermaid country, the sea serpents must be needed under control. I did those things without consulting them first to the senate. Also, furtively sending subordinates to the area around the mermaid country to do covert operations, trying to unearth various things.

They should use this enthusiasm to improve the country.

I murmured a spell and summoned the sea serpents. After invocation ended, I shouted out loud.

「Members of the Senate! Your reign is over! From now on, we will conquer the ocean. The days where anxiety and fear reigned will end!」

The sea serpent destroyed the ceiling of the senate, revealing its appearance. Numerous people were squashed by the fallen debris. The serpent awaited my instruction.

「Do it.」

In response to my short words, the serpents made everyone else other than the people with me a cold corpse.

    1. can I ask you a question?
does it bother you? I mean, does it conflict with your daily life? I knew that translating is a hard job… it really is. just like those moments where you’ll weigh the sanity of the author to your own.. I mean, there are mistakes on grammar and word usage!! it’s just plain madness!! there are also plotholes
